DIMA

The Department of Mechanics and Aeronautics (DMA) of the University of Rome “La Sapienza” was founded in 1982 by the following institutes: the Institute of Mechanical Machineries and Technologies (founded 1950), the Institute of Aerodynamics (1929), the Institute of Space Propulsion (1950) and the Institute of Applied Mechanics (1965). The DMA is currently located in the historic premises of the Faculty of Engineering near the church of San Pietro in Vincoli.
The very purpose of the DMA is the promotion and coordination of research activities concerning the design, construction and testing of machineries, structures, mechanical systems, technologies, production systems, systems for energy and the environment, with specific additional expertise in the field of theoretical/applied mechanics and fluid dynamics.
The DMA is the ideal partner for the organizations and industries, as well as for local authorities in order to transfer methodologies and results of their research activities. The Department provides enterprises and public authorities with its expertise and sophisticated tools, usually available solely by large companies, to help solving complex problems.
The DMA collaborates with major international research centres and detains important and continued funding for the development of research activities.
